Allotments in the market for our second year was a success, despite the awful rain that turned up just before 12.
The mayor, Jill Sheppard, also arrived at 12 to judge the hamper competition. She was really interested in what the various allotment associations were doing in the community and very impressed with the standard of the hampers – she said judging was very difficult!
The display of hampers was impressive and looked fab. Thanks to all the associations that made an effort to get the wonderful array of produce together and decorate their boxes.
We raised just over £80 for the mayor’s appeal from the sale of raffle tickets for the hampers, it was just over what we raised last year, and that was an achievement given rain stopped play at midday.
Everyone that won a hamper was so pleased when we delivered them, even the winner of the ‘guess the weight of the marrow’ was pleased although he didn’t really know what to do with it!
